"When you have shot one bird flying you have shot all birds flying. They are all different and they fly in different ways but the sensation is the same and the last one is as good as the first."

-Ernest Hemingway

Our History

Since the early 1700's Sweetwater Creek has rolled between the hills of Sweetwater Farm offering a great watering hole for resident and migratory dove as well as waterfowl.

In 1767, James Mattox settled in the area and built a small mill on Sweewater Creek. From this mill, Mattox constructed a rock dam to supply a larger water source for the growing population. To date, the dam at Sweetwater Creek is one of the last 4 standing rock dams in the county. In 1803, the Stage Coach Inn was built off Wire Road to offer shelter and rest for travelers from Augusta, Georgia to the then state capital Milledgeville.

Today Sweetwater Wingshooting's agricultural practices are focused around sound dove management. We believe in passing along the tradition of great Georgia Wingshooting experiences to the next generation.

The Habitat

For the 2017 season, our fields consist of Winter Wheat, Clearfield Sunflower, Corn and Grain Sorghum.

Our field design, bird management and site location will provide quality dove shoots from September through January. We have worked extensively with State Biologists and Agricultural Specialists to produce successful crop yields.

Our habitat management plan is not limited to your average September millet dove shoot. In turn, we focus on a year round plan for doves which imprints on the birds on their fall migration as well as their spring migration north. The consistency of our crops allows us to hold large numbers of doves providing our members with quality shoots year after year.
